SGK

Serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) is a gene that encodes a protein that functions as a serine/threonine kinase. The protein is involved in the cellular stress response by activating potassium, sodium, and chloride ion channels. In doing so, the protein aids in cell survival, neuronal excitability, and renal sodium excretion. Missense mutations, nonsense mutations, silent mutations, frameshift deletions and insertions, and in-frame deletions are observed in cancers such as endometrial cancer, kidney cancer, and skin cancer.

SGK1 is altered in 0.29% of all cancers with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified, follicular lymphoma, B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, acute myeloid leukemia, and mature B-cell neoplasm having the greatest prevalence of alterations [3].
