V-rel avian reticuloendotheliosis viral oncogene homolog (REL) is a gene that encodes a protein that functions in regulation of genes involved in apoptosis, inflammation, the immune response, and oncogenesis. Missense mutations, silent mutations, nonsense mutations, and frameshift insertions are observed in cancers such as colon cancer, cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer.

REL is altered in 0.95% of all cancers with lung adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified, endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma, and breast invasive ductal carcinoma having the greatest prevalence of alterations [3].
