Transmembrane protease, serine 2 (TMPRSS2) is a gene that encodes a protein that is a member of the serine protease family. The protein is involved in several physiological and pathological processes. Fusions, rearrangements, missense mutations, and silent mutations are observed in cancers such as kidney cancer, ovarian cancer, and skin cancer.

TMPRSS2 is altered in 2.24% of all cancers with prostate adenocarcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, cutaneous melanoma, breast invasive ductal carcinoma, and colon adenocarcinoma having the greatest prevalence of alterations [3].
