Mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1) is a gene that encodes a protein that belongs to the MAP kinase family. The protein functions in several cell signaling processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcriptional regulation, and cellular development. Missense, nonsense, and silent mutations are observed in cancers such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and skin cancer.

MAPK1 is altered in 0.82% of all cancers with lung adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, bladder urothelial carcinoma, endometrial endometrioid adenocarcinoma, and breast invasive ductal carcinoma having the greatest prevalence of alterations [3].
